Solar Powered Vehicle for a green ride in deserts

Designer Omer Sagiv’s futuristic Solar Powered Vehicle (SPV) is an ideal vehicle for long rides in deserts or other open lands. The SPV is a typical solar vehicle design. The aluminum structure mounts plenty of flexible thin film modules, which can generate much energy for long rides. In form, the SPV almost resembles Nuon solar car, developed by Delft University.

Solar car hits U.S. in round-the-world jaunt

Last October, the SolarWorld GT solar-powered car set out from Darwin, Australia on a drive around the world. It has since driven 3,001 kilometers (1,865 miles) across Australia, logged 1,947 km (1,210 miles) crossing New Zealand and been shipped across the Pacific Ocean. This Friday, it will embark on the U.S. leg of its journey, as it sets out across America from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Estonian auto company Dartz Kombat is known for making the Prombron — basically a bulletproof Hummer on steriods – however they recently announced plans to go ‘green’ by launching a bulletproof all-electric roadster called the Jo-Mojo. Set to debut in Monaco at the Top Marques show in April, the vehicle will feature a solar roof and muscular chassis. Check out a video slideshow of of the Jo-Mojo and its chameleon paint job — it actually changes colors — after the jump.

Solar-Powered Air Conditioning for Cars

Solar Powered Car (Corvair) — not a car using the solar-powered air conditioning system discussed below.

PolyU’s department of electrical engineering, in collaboration with Green Power Industrial, has developed an air conditioning system for cars that utilizes a photovoltaic solar panel to power the air conditioning system when the engine is off.

The solar panel is made of a flexible material so that it can conform to the shape of the car roof, and it charges a battery which, in turn, powers the standalone air conditioning system.

Five futuristic rescue systems that are green too

Rescue systems include all essential tools, equipment, machinery and anything that helps emergency personnel such as police, fire fighters, coast guards, military, etc. in emergency situations. These tools, that are included in the rescue system, are used as a part of safety measures in risky, emergency situations or for rescuing people who are in danger. No wonder that the best equipment of the latest technology are used for this purpose. But now that an effort to go-green is being made in every area and every invention, even rescue systems are being modeled in the same lines for future use. Here is a list of five such futuristic rescue systems that would help the environment gain its balance again:

Everyday thousand of vehicles are added on the roads that gulp down gas. These gas-guzzling beasts not only consume precious resources but are also responsible for polluting the environment. Keeping the ill-effects in mind, people are considering powering their rides with alternate forms if energy for a better tomorrow. But, Eco-friendly rides are often considered dull and slow that is a major put off. Fret no more! There are many designers who are working on this and have created solar-powered cars that will make eyes pop and jaws drop. Solar energy is free and is present in abundance, which can prove to be beneficial if used in the correct way. Below is a list of ten most Eco-friendly concept cars that run on solar energy.

Racing like the wind, powered by the sun

The University of Michigan’s Solar Car Team is hoping to break the U.S.’ 24-year dry spell at the 2011 World Solar Challenge this weekend. An American team hasn’t won the international solar car race since GM took home the trophy in 1987. But a lighter, faster car could give UM the edge it needs to cross the line first.

The World Solar Challenge is a 1,800-mile race across the Australian Outback in an ultralightweight, single-passenger vehicle powered solely by the sun. Teams race their solar vehicle between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., setting up camp in the desert wherever their vehicle stops. This year the UM solar car team will be competing with its 11th-generation solar vehicle, Quantum.

How to make a solar powered toy car

This article will teach you how to build your own solar-powered toy car. Knowing how to do this will not only benefit children, but also adults. When people are taught to use solar energy, they will become more aware of the fact that using natural sources is always better than thinking of sources that are fast depleting. Solar energy is available in abundance in all parts of the world. Children need to realize that electrical energy might not last really long. Drilling this thought into their minds at a really young age will augur well for the generations to come.

What’s next Electric cars powered by energy stored in body panels

A hybrid is any vehicle which runs by utilizing two or more technologies that provide power to the engine. Hybrids can be diesel-electric such as trains; nuclear-electric such as submarines; and gas-electric such as electric cars. Many big players in the field of manufacturing cars are commissioning projects on developing efficient electric cars pairing technologies that are readily available, and are light on pocket besides being user friendly.
