Marketers Misunderstand The Meaning Of Facebook Likes

Consumers and marketers have vastly different perceptions of and expectations about Facebook likes, which presents a problem for marketers who are slow to move, but an opportunity for those who pounce on it.

That’s based on a survey of more than 1,300 consumers and 132 senior marketers, conducted by Lithium and the Chief Marketing Officer Council.

Google Adds +1 Button to Image Search

Google‘s proliferation of the +1 button continued Wednesday as the company added the feature to image searches.

The button, which was introduced in March as an answer to Facebook’s “Like,” is equivalent to a stamp of approval from Google users. Over the past few months, +1s have appeared next to news articles, on websites and even in ads. (more…)

Google Plus started out growing faster than any social network has so far, but may not be able to compete against Facebook longer term.

The appeal is not sticking because many of the people that quickly flocked to Google Plus have made their way back to the comfort and familiarity of Facebook.

Man 'attacked wife for not 'liking' Facebook status'

A Texas man has been charged with battery after he allegedly attacked his estranged wife because she did not “like” his Facebook update.

Benito Apolinar, of Pecos, was arrested on Tuesday after fighting with Dolores Apolinar at her home in New Mexico, the Carlsbad Current- Argus reports.

Police said Apolinar, 36, posted an update on his Facebook page about the anniversary of his mother’s death and became angry after his wife, who he only recently separated from, did not click the “like” button to show she appreciated his comment.

Might we finally be getting the long-sought-after “dislike” button on Facebook?

The social-networking giant is working on an overhaul of its News Feed product, where users post status updates, photos, videos, and other items of interest, according to a Wall Street Journal report. Facebook is considering an unfiltered News Feed, which would dramatically increase the amount of content users see on their homepage, people familiar with the situation told the newspaper.

The site is also working on expanding the functionality of its “Like” button to include other hand gestures created by third-party developers, allowing users to share information about products or services with their friends. The move is seen as key to attracting more marketers to the social network.

The +1 button is about to get a whole lot faster, thanks to an update Google rolled out on Tuesday. “We’ve begun to roll out out a set of changes that will make the button render up to 3x faster on your site,” software engineer David Byttow said in a blog post. “No action is required on your part, so just sit back, relax, and watch as the button loads more quickly than before.”

Asking People To Like A Facebook Post Really Works!

Yes, asking people to like a post on Facebook works — it results in twice as many likes and comments as not making that simple request. Momentus Media has found that asking for a like gets a 216 percent higher interaction rate than otherwise. he company arrived at that number by studying 49,266 status updates from the top 20,000 Facebook pages.

Now here’s the interesting part: Asking people to comment doesn’t generate as high of an interaction rate as like seeking. We suspect that’s because likes require less effort than comments.
