Dcarcity of space on land has forced researchers and developers to look toward oceans as a source of respite. Treading along the same lines are some designers who take the opportunity to suggest some unprecedented dwellings and vessels that can stay and tread above or below the surface of calm waters. Bays and sea parks could be explored by using these vessels. One such dwelling made by the Italian Giancarlo Zema Design Group is Triobis 65. This group was inspired by sea creatures that used to live some 500 million years ago. It is a kind of modern, low impact vessel which can take only six visitors at a time, and is a very environment friendly vessel too.

The designers explain that the main aim of this project was to make a habitat which is pollution free, and a fantastic and unusual environment for everyone to live. The vessels are controlled with the help of joystick which can rotate upto 360 degrees. The instruments and electric engines situated in the 20m (660ft) long dwelling unit take their power from the solar panels and hydrogen fuel respectively. The semi submerged vessel covers the area both above and below the water line. It covers 1.4m (4.6ft) above the water line and 0.8m (2.6ft) just below it which is sufficient for a memorable underwater experience.

The Triobis functions as an amazing vessel for a complete underwater experience. It also offers optimum underwater viewing with its exclusive acrylic windows and looks like an underwater observation globe. Several Triobis 65’s can be grouped together into a floating circular colony. It may also prove to be useful to researchers who always look for finding out something new about the tiny sea creatures. They can find out some new and interesting features about these creatures.
