SSUET students win award for making a solar vehicle

A group of students of the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) have developed a ‘solar vehicle’, which won the second prize in the recent projects’ exhibition “Karachi Oasis of Harmony”.

The exhibition was organised by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Expo Centre, a press release issued here on Sunday said.

The group comprised Fahd Khan, Syeda Bibi Kudbano, Farhan Saeed, Asad Saeed, Shafiq Ahmed and Habib Shaukat of Electronic Engineering final year was also awarded a cash prize of Rs300,000, a spokesperson for the SSUET said.

The students gave a demonstration of their solar vehicle to the vice chancellor of SSUET, ZA Nizami, on the university’s campus.

He was highly appreciative of the feat performed and the skill exhibited by the students. He offered them more facilities and funds for producing such innovative projects in days to come.

Nizami described the production of solar-run vehicles as the need of the hour with fuel process continuously going up. “This innovative project of SSUET students could be effectively utilised in the commercial sector.”

The design of a solar car was severely limited by the amount of energy input into the car and it had the capacity of two persons with a speed of 40 kilometres per hour, the spokesman added.
