Solar-Konzept GmbH (Tangstedt, Germany) began construction on a 28MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant on a former NATO airport in Bavaria.

The companies expect the EUR 50 million (USD 72 million) plant, which will use REC ASA (Sandvika, Norway) PV modules, to completed by the end of 2011.

“We are very pleased to realize this groundbreaking project together with REC,” states Solar-Konzept Managing Director Christoph Schmitt.

“REC meets our requirements for quality and high performance with their modules, in addition to providing great logistical support.”

Site leased by German federal agency

The plant will use 120,000 REC PV modules, and will be the largest using REC modules to date. REC notes that it has developed several other projects with Solar-Konzept. The 40 hectare site for the plant has been leased for 20 years by the German Federal Office for Real Estate.
