New Energy Technology’s Spray-On Solar Cells Applied on Flexible Plastic Material

Last year, a company called New Energy Technology announced that they had succeeded making a photovoltaic substance that, applied on clear glass, could generate electricity. Now, they are announcing the same innovation being available for flexible plastic materials.

The researchers at New Energy Technology have successfully applied the coating on PET plastics (the material used for plastic bottles) at room temperature and low pressure. This, they say, will reduce manufacturing costs if the materials would be mass-produced.

“Today’s breakthrough supports a brand new commercial application for our core SolarWindow(TM) technology and is the direct result of numerous patent-pending methods, materials, and processes we have worked hard to invent and develop,” said John A. Conklin, President and CEO of New Energy Technologies, Inc.

The market for this technology looks quite big: 85 million commercial buildings and homes in the U.S.. With such massive prospects, only the issue of commercialization at cheap prices remains to be settled.

Imagine that you could one day look through your car’s window knowing it charges the battery – quite amazing for a spray, isn’t it?
