Snyder’s-Lance Inc. (Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S.) announced the completion of a 3.5MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant adjacent to its corporate headquarters and manufacturing plant in Hanover, Pennsylvania, U.S.

The plant, which is comprised of over 15,000 PV modules and covers 10.5 hectares, is the largest in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

“The solar farm shows the commitment that Snyder’s-Lance has made to creating snack products in a more sustainable way,” stated Snyder-Lance President and Chief Operating Officer Carl Lee.

“Our goal has always been to make ‘better for you’ snacks and now they are also better for the earth as well.”

RMK Solar managed the solar installation, which began in September 2010.

Pennsylvania emerged as the United States’ sixth largest PV market in 2010, with 46.8MW-DC of PV installed during the year.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has cited both the state’s renewable portfolio standard and its Sunshine rebate program with its significant growth in PV capacity in recent years.
