The main disadvantage of an electric car which prevents its sale is recharging it. There are not enough service recharge stations on the way to a long journey and it is difficult to carry spare heavy batteries every time we go out. Now this shortcoming is resolved as you no longer have to worry about recharging your electric car. A new technology being developed by a British firm in association with a racing outfit can allow your electric car to recharge automatically by sourcing energy from the surface of the road, even while you are driving. At present, the new technology is being developed primarily for racing cars. However, the developers are hopeful that lessons learned on the racing track will open ways for general application of this technology.

Developed by HalolPT, which has partnered with Drayson Racing Technologies for this project, this new system uses inductive power transfer technology for recharging the electric cars. It will enable the car to recharge its cells by capturing power from transmitters buried under the track without any wire connection. As such, power will be continuously stored in car’s battery during the entire length of its journey.

In recent times, automobile engineers have been trying to use internal combustion engines based on ‘green’ options. The vehicles with compressed air engines or the vehicles that can run on energy obtained from fuels cells have been some of the noticeable development. Electric cars, in this context, are also seen as a better option because of their zero-emission credentials. But, certain limitations have hindered the growing popularity of electric cars.

According to Paul Drayson, co-founder of the Drayson Racing, the new HaloIPT technology will prove to be a game changer. As, it will allow engines to get power from the transmitters hidden below the surface of the racing track. So, the users would not have to plug-in for hours to recharge their cars. Also, they would not have to carry heavy spare batteries during their journey.
