The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) called for an extension of existing cooperation in the field of renewable energy with the United States, at a meeting with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in New Delhi, India.

The MNRE emphasized technology transfer and storage to accompany renewable energy generation among areas of desired future cooperation between the nations.

 

Solar among areas of cooperation under pre-existing agreements

India has also asked for greater cooperation in the areas of integration of solar and wind energy, small grids and policy frameworks for enhancing deployments of renewable energy.

The MNRE notes that solar energy is among the areas that have been identified for cooperation between the two nations under the Indo-US Energy Dialogue.

The July 19th, 2011 meeting was between Minister of New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah and DOE Deputy Secretary Daniel Poneman.

Meeting follows on Strategic Dialogue

The meeting between the MNRE and DOE occurred during a U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue, attended by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U.S. Export-Import Bank Chairman and President Fred Hochberg, and Indian officials.

On July 18th, Hochberg announced USD 25.2 million in loans to U.S. PV manufacturers to support exports to be used in Indian PV plants.
