Solar-powered 'Lanterna Di Mare' decides the shortest route between Africa and Europe

The ‘Lanterna Di Mare’ – meaning ‘lamp of the sea’ is the work of two Italian designers Alessandro Loschivo and Francesco Nava. The ‘Lanterna Di Mare’ is a unique creation that decides the shortest possible route from Africa to Europe (from the Strait of Gibralter) with luminous buoys that highlight the path.

The most important feature of the Lanterna de Mare is that it utilizes solar energy for lighting these buoys, that is, the sun’s energy is stored during the day to power the buoys at night. These buoys not only serve as illuminated markers for navigators, but their innovative design can also serve as resting points for swimmers and first aid, as all the necessary equipment is available at each buoy.

These huge floating eco-friendly buoys are to installed at a distance of 500 meters from one another – tightly anchored to the bed of the ocean. These wonderful floating structures are an innovative way to connect two distant continents in a ‘green’ way.
